To my worship leader/pastor friends:
Where did you guys go? It seems that lately nobody has been posting worship confessionals. Over this summer I have enjoyed trading stories, sharing struggles, celebrating victories, etc… But recently it seems everyone has dropped off the map. Am I wrong?
Come on people! We have a great vehicle here to keep each other accountable, to provide prayer support, and just plain enjoy the WC’s for their entertainment value alone. This is iron sharpening iron. Get to posting!
Here is a reminder of why we do worship confessionals from the Tone Guru: What is a worship confessional?
Sphere: Related ContentOne the of the better known churches in San Diego has moved into its new facility in Pt. Loma. Here is an article in the UT about it.
Also, check out the first comment to the article. It demonstrates one of the challenges the church has in communicating the Gospel to a post-Christian world.
Mr. McPherson, what on earth does San Diego need to be “saved” from except incompetent and corrupt politicians?
Church wants to be ‘good neighbors’ in new home
Sphere: Related ContentSo we are having this church retreat on evangelism, and we did this really cool exercise called 55 Word Fiction. 55 Word Fiction attempts to reduce writing to its most concise and central elements. We had to write out the essentials of the Gospel in 55 words or less. It really helps you distill down the essential elements of the Gospel in order to better communicate them. Now I am not a writer by any stretch of the imagination, but here is my attempt:
God is perfect, we are not. We can’t overcome the difference. We are separated by sin. God is love. God loves us. Jesus bridged the gap. He lived the perfect life, died and rose so that we are forgiven, and have new, abundant and eternal life. Our job is to tell the world what happened.
It is a challenge, and a lot of fun. Go at it and post your entries in the comments.

DISCLAIMER: This post may be extremely boring.
Today I wanted to demo a blog that I had built for someone, and show them how to edit its content. I was looking for software that would allow me to screencast the demo over the internet. I found a little free app to help me meet this need. Yuuguu
At first glance Yuuguu looks like your typical instant messaging program (ala AIM, iChat, etc..), but the cool little hidden feature that it comes with makes this a gem.
Yuuguu allows you to screencast in real time to the person you are chatting with. That means you could demo a piece of software on your system, surf the web, and your friends will see it. It also gives you a “big brother” feature of taking control of your friends computer. This would be very useful if you want to fix your someones computer over the internet.
I thought it was cool. Check it out.

Sphere: Related ContentA Sad Day, originally uploaded by keydin.
Today was a sad day in the Eller family. We had to make the difficult decision of having our cat of fourteen years, Crazy, put to sleep.
In the past month or so, she had lost a lot of weight, ate very little, and had masses that were building in her body. Fortunately, we had been able to prep the kids in the last few days, which made it a little easier on them.
You never realize how attached you are to these creatures until you have to let them go.
Sphere: Related ContentWell, Alex beat me to the punch by posting this to his blog first. I had the opportunity to hang out with Alex McLean (Worship Pastor at Life Church in Temecula) and Karl Verkade (Music Director at LC) yesterday. We met in Escondido to eat lunch and talk shop. We exchanged stories, shared ideas, ate a lot of breadsticks, etc… It was a real encouragement to me to hang out with other worship types and discover they have similar challenges, concerns, and passions.
This “iron sharpening iron” experience is something that I have been wanting to do for a long time. I have had a hard time finding worship leaders in my area to fellowship with, so when Alex suggested that we get together, I jumped on the opportunity.
Thank Alex and Karl. I had a great time! Let’s do it again.
BTW: If there is anyone else in San Diego County, South Orange County, or Riverside County who wants to hang out, let me know.
Sphere: Related ContentI found an interesting worship blog that is written from a drummer’s viewpoint. So, often as worship leaders we blog, comment, etc… from a worship leader perspective, and sometimes ignore the perspectives of other parts of a worship band.
I thought the site was interesting. Check it out at: http://gpdrums.wordpress.com/
Sphere: Related ContentPrepare to be amazed with three of the best drummers around (Vinny, Steve, and Dave). This is from a Buddy Rich Memorial Concert in the early ’90s. I remember seeing it for the first time when I was working at music store around that same time. It blew me away then, it blows me away now. Be sure to watch the whole thing.
Sphere: Related ContentWe had a great time camping at Woods Valley Campground for the last couple of days. It was nice to swim, fish, and relax. The coolest thing happened when Candace and I got up at 4am this morning to walk to the restroom. We saw the most beautiful array of stars. We were also able to see three different objects (satellites, space shuttle, space station, or something) orbiting the earth. It was awesome! Check out the pics below (click on the image):
