Another Reason I Like Apple

Apple-logo.jpgRecently I managed to break the firewire port on my macbook. I know what you are thinking, “Steve, how can you break a firewire port?” I am the type of person that is unintentionally rough on stuff, so it broke. Sue me!

Well, with all that I connect to that firewire port, it basically rendered my computer useless. So, I took it into Apple on Tuesday morning (two days ago) to get it fixed. Since my computer was a month and a half out of warranty I had to pay for the repairs myself. Honestly, I am not sure it would have been covered anyway. So they had this deal where you pay a very reasonable price to not only fix the problem (replacing the logic board), but, they basically fix anything else that is wrong. I was bummed with the prospect of having to use my wife old and slow G4, and to not have it for 7-10 business days. Even though this is a reasonable repair time, for me, it is an eternity because this is the hub of all I do for a living. Reluctantly I let it go.

Jump to this morning (Thursday, two days later). I get this knock on the door, and it is a delivery guy with my computer! Wow, I don’t think I have ever gotten that kind of service from a local shop. Not only did they replace the logic board, but they replaced the top case (in the 1st gen models they had some staining issues).

All I can say is I am so glad I went to the dark side, or light side depending on your perspective.

A Few Random Thoughts On A Saturday Night

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/122/363087226_0ef9f6d9b6.jpgFall kickoff tomorrow. I have a friend who is a great sax player sitting in to blow his horn, as well as bring a little percussion flava. We are doing “Neighborhoods” by Big Daddy Weave which has a definite Dave Matthews vibe. It should be a lot of fun.

I am feeling challenged to step up my devotional life, and our giving.

I have really been praying for our congregation lately. There are a lot of new believers that don’t realize that there can be a freedom to worship God with joy and passion. I am really praying for a breakthrough. No, I am not judging the quality of worshiping God by how much the people participate on the outside. I just want them to know that is ok to be loud in worship of God. It is ok to clap, cry out, and sing full force to God! My second prayer is that our worship on Sundays would become a genuine celebration of our worship the other six days of the week. That our relationship with God doesn’t start at 9:00am and end at 12:00 on Sunday. I include myself in this. I want my whole life, whether it be leading music on Sunday, serving my family, or just doing the mundane day to day tasks, to be a living sacrifice, 24/7/365.

Praying many would take one step closer to Christ, no matter where they are in relationship with Him.

Discouraged that our church isn’t growing as fast as I would like. Encouraged by this:

Great news from our pastor yesterday. We had a woman that had been coming to our church for a year and a half, and had never made a commitment to Christ. The cool thing was that she called our pastor out of the blue this week to tell him that she gave her life to Christ, and wanted to be baptized! It shows again that I can never give up on people. God doesn’t, why should I?

During our soccer camp we had a couple bring their child. They weren’t attending our church, or any other for that matter. In the soccer camp packet we had a card talking about our new marriage series that starts this week. Apparently John (our pastor) ran into one of them in Starbucks and they mentioned this series was exactly what they needed in their marriage, and they were going to be there on Sunday.

Feeling like I am on the edge of something. What that is, I don’t know.

I am expecting God to do something powerful tomorrow, whether I see it or not. I am ready to go along for the ride.

Just a few random thoughts…

Mute Math On Jimmy Kimmel Live

Check out this “backward” performance of Mute Math on Jimmy Kimmel live. I know this is on a few blogs, but this was very cool, and I had to post it. My mind is still trying to wrap around how they did this technically.

It is amazing how quickly bands can be thrust into the spotlight. I was working as a volunteer at Spirit West Coast a couple of years ago, shuttling artists around, and I got to meet these guys. Wow, how quickly things change.

Here Is My Dilemma

dilemma.jpg

There are three great concerts coming to town (or close to town), and I can’t decide which one to go to. In a perfect world I could buy tickets to all three shows, but it’s not happening. So, which concert should I go to:

Chris Tomlin with Louie Giglio - November 1 at The Rock church in San Diego
David Crowder Band - October 12, House of Blues San Diego
Casting Crowns - September 30, Anaheim Convention Center
