San Diego Burning #3
San Diego Burning #2
Here we are watching the news, like we have done for the past 48 hours. I never thought that this series of fires would rival the damage of the fires for years ago, but it looks as though they have. They are just now beginning to assess the damage throughout the county. Over 400 homes in Rancho Bernardo, 500 in Fallbrook have been destroyed, and these are initial assessments.
We have friends in Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Penasquitos, Escondido who were all evacuated in the last couple of days. I don’t yet know if their homes were spared or not.
We have many in our church family in Chula Vista who were affected by the Harris fire in the South Bay. The fire actually burned up to the cul de sac of our pastor . Fortunately it looks as though everybody in Chula Vista is looking good. The evacuation orders have been lifted, and they are being let back into their houses. The area affected is near the Otay Lakes Reservoir, which made for quick water drops from air tankers. Praise God for those big lakes!
Even though some fires are still raging, and a lot of damage has been, things are starting to look better. The Santa Ana winds are lessening, and we are beginning to get an onshore flow.
One other thing, I am so proud of our city/county. We are so blessed to live in a place where people care. They had to tell people to STOP bringing donations of food, water, diapers, etc… to Qualcomm Stadium because they had too much. This aid was not supplied by the local, state, or federal government. It was by the people in the greater San Diego area that saw a need and responded. At Qualcomm there was order and peace in a parking lot/stadium holding what they are estimating 20-30000 people. I am not going to bash the people of New Orleans during hurricane Katrina, but here there wasn’t anyone shooting at helicopters, trashing the stadium, etc… People were civil. Check out this article about what is going on at the Q.
It is simply amazing to see love in action. Some are saying this love is merely an expression “the human spirit”, but I believe that it is an injection of God’s Spirit!

Overnight these fires have taken off with full force. Fortunately we are in Central San Diego, and the major fires are north (Rancho Bernardo/Escondido/San Marcos) and south (Tecate/Jamul) of us. The smoke is hanging around though. Matthew and I both have athsma so we are all staying inside with the a/c on.
Some on the news are saying that this could be worse than the Cedar fire of four years ago. They can’t even really report on the extent of the damage because the smoke is so thick. Needless to say it is looking pretty bad. I read somewhere that they have had sustained 35mph winds with gusts to 60-70mph consistently all night. They haven’t even been able to get any of the fire tankers in the air!
Please pray for this situation.

Here We Go Again!
Four years after the devastating fires that hit San Diego County, it is looking like we may be in for another round. There are two major fires raging. One is just west of the mountain town of Julian, and the other near the Mexican border in the Tecate/Jamul area. The weather forecast is for strong Santa Ana winds through Tuesday. Not good for an out of control brush fire.
Please pray for the people in our county. There has already been one life lost, and others injured.

I am going to try doing my confessionals in a text format for a while. I just feel like I am repeating myself on the video, and I can cover the same information via text. I am not saying this is permanent, but I wanted to try something a little different. I still may include video from the worship as they are available.
We had a pretty solid week. First service started out slow. Everybody just seemed a little late to worship :). Once we got rolling, it was awesome. Second service was slammin’ as well. It must have been because Rubin had his super-mongo-deluxe drum kit this week! People really seemed connected, and participating in worship.
Here was the lineup:
Jesus You Alone - Tim Hughes
Awesome Is The Lord Most High - Chris Tomlin
Everlasting God - Brenton Brown
You Are My King - Billy Foote
No One Else Knows - Building 429
Communion: Here I Am To Worship - Tim Hughes

Why is it that I put myself through the abuse of selling stuff on Craigslist? I have some gear that I wanted to sell (so that I can get more gear) and I listed it all on Craigslist because I generally have good success selling stuff there. But Craiglist can be sooooo frustrating for one reason, because you have to deal with flaky people. I can’t tell you how many times I have had people not show up when you schedule a time with them. Is this the nature of Craigslist, or are people just that irresponsible?
And while I am on this rant, why do people start negotiating price on the phone before they even see the item?
Hold on I hear a knock at the door. Maybe it’s a buyer…
