I haven’t been posting much in the last week or so because we have been taking a little bit of time off for Christmas. I have lots of video and pics to sort through from Christmas Eve, our mission trip to Mexico, the Holiday Bowl Parade, etc… I hope to have them posted soon.
I hope you are all enjoying your holidays, and are ready for a blessed 2008.
The Clark Brothers. I am so stoked that these guys won. Raw, honest, great music. The other cool thing was that their faith was always on the surface of every song they did. Congratulations!
Our church is starting a new series in January called “30 Days To Live”. We will have an opportunity to answer the questions “What if you learned you had just 30 days to live? How would your life be different? Is it possible to make the most of every day, right now?”
Ok, this story is about a year old, but I didn’t see it until now. Here is an article about how a man restored the original house from “The Christmas Story”. I love this movie, and I thought it was interesting.
FRA-GEE-LE.
“I think that says ‘fragile’, honey.”
“You’ll shoot your eye out!”
I love ‘A Christmas Story’ - and those of you who haven’t seen the movie are like, “Ingrid’s lost her mind.” Well, I have, but that’s not the point!
If you’ve see ‘A Christmas Story’ (a 1000 times or so, like me), undoubtedly you recall the house that Ralphie and his family lived in. Well, the actual house from the movie went up for aution on eBay, and Jones (a megafan by the sounds of it), paid the owner $150,000 to end the bid early.
The house was his!
He then invested $500,000 in restoring it to look just as it did in he movie!
He put in new windows and replaced the 111-year-old house’s gray aluminum siding with mustard yellow painted wood and green trim that perfectly matches Ralphie’s house.
Although only a couple interior shots were filmed there, Jones has recreated the ’40s feel of Ralphie’s home with a brown-and-white tile kitchen floor, a wide cast-iron sink in the kitchen, a claw-foot bathtub and, of course, a leg lamp in the window.
He also bought the house across the street _ Ralphie runs past it in the film’s opening scene _ to serve as a museum and gift shop. Several original items from the film are on display, including the infamous snowsuit (”I can’t put my arms down!”) worn by Ralphie’s brother, Randy.
The house is now (as of November of this year) open to tourists. So if you’re ever in Cleveland area, make sure to stop in.
Anyone who is involved in church ministry, vocationally or as a volunteer can relate to how I am feeling today. And I know our team will be feeling it come Monday night!
I am trying to get all the music arranged for this Sunday. It isn’t enough that we are supporting a kid’s Christmas program with music during our second service, but we are also extending worship quite a bit during first service. Our family is going down for a mission trip to Mexico on Saturday. We are starting a new series the first week of ‘08 that has to have all the graphics done, mailers ordered, etc.. this week! Then there is Christmas Eve. You add doing the family thing, trying to keep your kid’s from opening their presents before the 25th (yes, my son has already managed to partially open one gift), and it can make for chaos and stress.
In spite of the busyness, I am so aware of God’s providential, loving hand on my life. I am excited and passionate about not only serving Him this Christmas, but for the future God has planned for my life, my family, and my church. I am grateful for my God and my Savior, Jesus Christ, and the times we have walked together in the last couple of weeks. I am thankful for a healthy and loving family, who puts up with my weirdness, and loves me anyway. I am honored to be able to work side by side with a team of friends in our ministry that gives of its time, talents, and heart to serve the Kingdom of God, even when it is hard.
So, yeah, I am a little busy, and little tired, but God has really blessed me, and I am soaking it up!
Wow, another great week of worship at RVC! Acoustic set this week. I didn’t originally plan it that way, but we didnt have a bass player this week. Musically we had a great groove going. Vocally the harmonies were nice and full. Good stuff.
John continued his “Classic Christmas” with the message “Birth Of A Kingdom“. Participation factor was up again. Powerful holy moment during the end of “You Are The One”.
John O. also shared about our first delivery trip to Mexico for Ninos. We are having our second trip next Saturday, and our fam is going!!
The set:
Everyday - Joel Houston
Your Grace Is Enough - Chris Tomlin
Enough - Chris Tomlin
You Are The One - Lincoln Brewster
O Come, O Come Emmanuel
Nothing But The Blood - Matt Redman
Next Week: Kid’s Christmas Program, and Christmas Eve!
