Pastors Never Retire

Last night I had the honor of going to the retirement of the first pastor I was ever on staff with. When I first realized the call God into vocational music ministry I was attending a Methodist Church in Rancho Bernardo, and Rob Calderhead was my pastor. It was awesome experience to be a part of the final chapter of his professional ministry life, and reminisce about the “old days”.

The retirement included about twenty other retiring Methodist pastors. Each only had a short period of time to share how God had touched their lives and ministry. I enjoyed hearing how each of them were called into the ministry, and the valley and mountaintop experiences along the way. But I particularly enjoyed hearing Rob pass the torch to the newly ordained pastors. He shared the importance of keeping the Gospel at center of their ministry, and finding any creative means to deliver it.

Congratulations Rob! I was proud to have you as my pastor and friend.

  1. Steve,
Are you still at a Methodist Church?

My church is part of the UMC.

  2. No, not anymore. We are affiliated with the Evangelical Covenant Church. I grew up in the Methodist church.

  3. I’d love to invite you to upload any original songs that are well produced to worshipsong.com. It’s a place for your songs to be heard and for you to be able to sell downloadable mp3’s rhythm charts, etc.

    Blessings…

  4. Hey Holland. Thanks for the note. I will check it out. I do have some songs I would like to get out there, and this may be the ticket.

    Thanks for stopping by.
