Encouragement

I saw this commercial recently and I must say I love it. It is funny, and how can you not love an 80’s rock anthem. I wish I could have Survivor feeding me encouragement like that on a daily basis!

As strange as it may sound this video also reminded me that even though we may not have a rock band that has our back, God gives us that same kind of encouragement. God is on our side and in our corner. When we are worried with the troubles of life, and feel like people are coming at us from every direction, we need to remember God is for us. He’s cheering us on.

“What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”[l] No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[m] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:31-39

I hope this encourages you like it does me.

What I Love About My Hometown #3

375269136_1a99b91981_o.jpg

There are many people who say that San Diego doesn’t have great food. I beg to differ. Beside the obvious great Mexican food, I have found dining spots that are pretty darn good.

Some of my favs are:

Pizza/Italian -

Filippi’s Pizza Grotto
This family owned chain has good Italian food from what I understand. I don’t really know because all that I ever eat there is their great pizza! While the pizza differs slighty from location to location, it is all good. I especially enjoy the Little Italy location downtown.

Mexican Food -

Rubio’s Fresh Mexican Grill
Regional mexican chain with great fish tacos. Locations found just about anywhere in San Diego County

California Burrito
This is a place that most people don’t know about. It opened up about 2 years ago, right in my neighborhood. GREAT carne asada!

Seafood/Burgers -

Cass Street Bar & Grill
Tucked away local joint. Killer oriental chicken and fish salads. Great burgers! Pan fried potatoes that are to die for. Tight quarters, but you can get your food to go and eat on the beach in P.B.

All-American Breakfasts

Konos Cafe
Located across the boardwalk from the beach in Pacific Beach. Huge breakfasts. Eggs, pancakes, potatoes, etc… Very affordable and seating area along Crystal Pier overlooking the beach.

Pipes Cafe
Ok, this isn’t technically in San Diego, but very close in Cardiff. Similar to Konos. Located across the train tracks from Cardiff State Beach. Lots of local surf memorabilia. Awesome food. Expect to wait in line at this place. Very popular among locals.

This is only a sampling. There is so many more to enjoy.

I am sure all my local friends are now going to remind me of the places I missed!

Can You Hear Me Now?

power.JPGWhen it comes to communication tools, we are in such prolific times. YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, blogs, texting, etc… along with older forms like the phone and personally getting together with each other.

While all of these tools are great, I am wondering which is the most effective, or what combination or recipe works best for you as you lead/communicate with others, ministries, groups, etc… I am not looking for what the coolest” tool is, but the most effective.

I would love to hear your story. Please comment.

A Good Read

“Experiential Worship: Encountering God With Heart, Soul, Mind, And Strength” (Bob Rognlien)

Recently I went to the Saddleback Purpose Driven Worship Conference and I was given a book that I have really enjoyed and wanted to pass along.

This book challenges us to worship God by engaging our whole heart, soul, mind and strength (Mt. 22:37). Bob Rognlien links each part of this this passage to a complete worship life.

After each chapter there are study questions, so this book could be used for a small group study as well.

I really enjoyed it and I think you will too. I wish I could buy a few hundred copies for our church!

What Should I Read?

Candace and I have been going through our “stuff” in an attempt to de-clutter. One of the things we have been trying to do is pair down a box of books that has been sitting in the garage. I found a few books that we got from Candace’s grandma after she passed away a few years ago and I thought I would start digging into them.

This is where I need your help. Here are couple books I am looking at reading, but I can’t decide which one to read first. Can you help me out?

What I Love About My Hometown #2

One of the cool things about San Diego is that most everything is within 2 hours or less. Skiing is close in Big Bear, playing in the snow is only 40min. away, and the beach is 10min minutes from our house.

Within this city of 2 million plus you would surpised that you can also escape to “the wilderness” with a couple of minutes. If you visit Mission Valley you can walk along the shores of the San Diego River and never really notice you are in the middle of a major city.

Recently Candace took a hike up Cowles mountain which is about 15 min. from our house. We used to hike this small mountain quite a bit B.K. (before kids), but we decided to start hiking it again. Cowles has great views of the east county and central San Diego. Here are a few pics we took. We even found a few geocaches while we were there.

Where is your escape?

Gas Prices Dropping?

screen-capture.jpg

It is great that gas prices are falling, but it always seems that when they fall like this we get setup for another huge increase. Sorry for the skepticism, but I have read this story before.

What are you paying for gas?

No Drummer…No Problem

Occasionally I have the need for a drummer, but can’t get one to fill in. Instead of always going “unplugged” when this happens, I sometimes program my drums with Toontrack EZDrummer to make it happen. Check out this video, and I will show you how I use this awesome plugin.

What I Love About My Hometown #1

There are many things that I love about my hometown, and the Chargers and Padres two of my favorites. While the Padres are having a rough year, I still am a dedicated fan, and can enjoy them even in a year of disappointment and under-achieving.

The Chargers on the other hand are coming off a season when they were one game from the Superbowl. This could very well be the year they finally win their first Superbowl. Only time will tell.

Today I took the kids to the first open to the public training camp practice and shot a little video to get you READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!

What is your favorite thing about where you live?
