What I Love About My Hometown #3

There are many people who say that San Diego doesn’t have great food. I beg to differ. Beside the obvious great Mexican food, I have found dining spots that are pretty darn good.

Some of my favs are:

Pizza/Italian -

Filippi’s Pizza Grotto
This family owned chain has good Italian food from what I understand. I don’t really know because all that I ever eat there is their great pizza! While the pizza differs slighty from location to location, it is all good. I especially enjoy the Little Italy location downtown.

Mexican Food -

Rubio’s Fresh Mexican Grill
Regional mexican chain with great fish tacos. Locations found just about anywhere in San Diego County

California Burrito
This is a place that most people don’t know about. It opened up about 2 years ago, right in my neighborhood. GREAT carne asada!

Seafood/Burgers -

Cass Street Bar & Grill
Tucked away local joint. Killer oriental chicken and fish salads. Great burgers! Pan fried potatoes that are to die for. Tight quarters, but you can get your food to go and eat on the beach in P.B.

All-American Breakfasts

Konos Cafe
Located across the boardwalk from the beach in Pacific Beach. Huge breakfasts. Eggs, pancakes, potatoes, etc… Very affordable and seating area along Crystal Pier overlooking the beach.

Pipes Cafe
Ok, this isn’t technically in San Diego, but very close in Cardiff. Similar to Konos. Located across the train tracks from Cardiff State Beach. Lots of local surf memorabilia. Awesome food. Expect to wait in line at this place. Very popular among locals.

This is only a sampling. There is so many more to enjoy.

I am sure all my local friends are now going to remind me of the places I missed!
