Worship Confessional 8/10/08

Today John was teaching out of Jonah 3:1-10 as a part of his Jonah series. Good participation from the congregation, and we also had a few friends from a former church come visit.

This week my wife recorded all of the music so I have included it here in its entirety. Listen near the end of Everyday and you can hear my 7 year-old daughter singing. So cool!

Here was the set:
Salvation Is Here - Houston
Today Is The Day - Brewster/Baloche
How Great Is Our God - Tomlin
Facedown - Redman
Beautiful News - Redman
Everyday - Houston

  1. Kudos to your electric player for playing that Brewster solo virtually intact at that speed. Wow.

  3. I was actually surprised I could hit any of the notes let alone only messing up on a few of them. Thanks Bryan.

Seriously though…we need to take it back a notch or 13, Steve!!! I always push the tempo and Isaac’s usually really good about keeping us laid back. Maybe he was just excited this week. I’m still thinking click-track.

  4. @Tim - Yeah sometimes Isaac gets a little excited. Look at the beginning of Beautiful News and you will see me mouth “slower”.

I have thought about a click track before. Let me mull it over. A couple of issues though. 1) Getting the click in the drummer’s ears at a level where they are comfortable, laying back in the groove, not pushing the tempo and fighting the click. 2) The rest of the band needs to do the same. We can be just as guilty!

We have used loops/clicks before and for the most part has gone well, but when people get off or push the tempo it can sound out of whack.

Maybe its something we can do only on certain “problem” songs. It seems like the slower songs are less of a problem, and might be able to be done without.

I don’t know. Something to consider. Thanks Tim.
