We had a great week. Lots of visitors, especially parents of the kids who went to camp last week. Lots of positive comments from those visitors expressing that they wanted to be a part of what God is doing at RVC! The kids sang a song from the camp during worship and rocked the house!

Set list:

Marvelous Light - Charlie Hall
You Are Good - Joel Houston
God Of This City - Bluetree
Your Name - Paul Baloche

Give Me Your Eyes - Brandon Heath

Your Love Is Deep - Steve Eller (1st Service)
Jesus, You Alone -  Tim Hughes (2nd Service)

My New Blog

0 #

I have decided to change my blog to more of a Tumblelog. This will allow me to aggregate my twitter, delicious links, youtube video, and posts in one spot.

It is pretty slick how I have it setup. Whenever I post a video to youtube, a link to delicious, or send a tweet it automatically posts to this blog

It is definitely geared for smaller bite sized posts, which suits me a little better.

Vacation

I am on vacation this week! The first part of the week I am getting some things done around the house. A little drywall repair, cleaning, etc… On Thursday morning we are driving over to Sedona, AZ to meet up with my father-in-law to camp in his 5th wheel. It will be really strange because I have never camped in a camper before. I have always been one to rough it with or without a tent. This should be camping in luxury. Cable TV, internet, a/c.

I will try to send back some video/pics throughout the week.

30 Years Ago Today - PSA 182

It was on this day in 1978 that PSA flight 182 crashed after colliding with a Cessna aircraft over San Diego killing all on board the two aircraft, as well as 8 on the ground. The worst U.S. air disaster at that point in time.

This is something I will never forget. It was a hot September day, and I was home sick from school. It was so hot, San Diego City Schools were actually let out half day because of the heat. I remember the news of the crash spread quickly, and we could see the huge plume of smoke from our house about 9 miles away. I also recall my cousin, who had recently moved to San Diego, calling my mom from her house a couple of blocks away from the crash scene, and being totally hysterical. It was also rumored that a teacher at our school had part of the Cessna fall through his house.

Today on my way home from our kid’s camp in Chula Vista I had to stop and get gas on University Ave., off the 805 which is close to where the plane crashed. I heard that they were having memorials today, so I decided to drive over and see what was going on. It was really strange. There were about 10-15 people standing in the street at Dwight and Nile just looking around.

Even after 30 years, people are still trying to come to grips with what happened that day.

Here is a story about the 30 year anniversary.

Please share your comments if you were here.

Making The Switch

cutting+cable.jpg

For the past couple of months I have been looking at eliminating our cable TV. Right now we have a TV/Internet/Phone package from Time Warner Cable, but it is getting too expensive to keep everything. So we are going to strip it down to just an internet connection, and go back to just using our mobile phones. We are also looking to get an apple.tv soon to stream content from iTunes directly into our TV. This will allow us to still purchase the shows we like. We can use sites like hulu.com for content as well. As far as movies go we have a Netflix account. Finally I will need to brave getting on my roof and installing an antenna to receive over-the-air local channels.

This should end up saving us money, and it will make our T.V. viewing more planned and less vegging out in front of the TV. The only drawback is that we will lose Padres games on Channel 4. Hopefully the blackout policy of Major League Baseball will be changed in the future where we can watch this on the internet too.

Is anyone else doing this? Are you considering doing this? Any tips?

First Day Of School

Today was a pretty special day around here. It was Matthew’s first day of kindergarten. He was so excited to start. He already knows his teacher, Mrs. Diaz, and knows quite a few of Cassandra’s friends. So he is comfortable and ready to go! Here are a few pics:
